In Georgia and across the country, Medicaid redetermination began in April 2023, after being halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since March 2020, Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids recipients have been eligible for continuous coverage. However, about three million people across the state are now at risk of losing coverage, as Medicaid Unwinding continues through May 2024. Between April and August 2023, more than 170,000 people lost their coverage.
Georgia’s disenrollment rate is the 5th highest in the nation, and many are losing coverage due to a lack of awareness of the required re-enrollment.
